Data backup and recovery
The right approach depends on the condition of the storage drive. A healthy readable drive may only need a normal backup, while an unstable drive can require cloning and careful recovery attempts.
Data backup 5,000–7,500 ISK · Data recovery / cloning 12,500–20,000 ISK
Severely damaged or unreadable SSDs requiring specialist recovery tools are quoted separately or referred to Datatech.
Backup from a healthy readable drive
- For an SSD or hard drive that is healthy, detected normally and can be read without errors.
- Price: 5,000–7,500 ISK depending on data volume and scope.
- This is data backup, not recovery from a failing or unstable storage device.
Recovery and cloning from an unstable drive
- For a drive that reads inconsistently, becomes extremely slow, produces errors or shows other signs of failure.
- The safest approach may be to clone the drive onto healthy storage before attempting further file recovery.
- Price: 12,500–20,000 ISK depending on drive condition, data volume and the number of recovery attempts required.
- Recovery of all data cannot be guaranteed.
Severely damaged or unreadable SSD
- If an SSD is not detected, is unreadable or requires specialist recovery equipment that TölvuLab does not have, the case is quoted separately.
- Where appropriate, TölvuLab may refer the case to Datatech for specialist data recovery.
- No outside specialist work is authorised on the customer's behalf without consultation.
Before trying anything else
- If a drive is beginning to fail, minimise unnecessary use and repeated read attempts.
- Do not run repair utilities, reinstall an operating system or format a drive containing important data unless you accept the risk.
- Tell us how important the data is in your enquiry so the most cautious approach can be chosen from the start.
If the drive is inside a computer that also needs repair, see laptop repair or computer repair.
